Family Fun

Here are some suggestions of things to do with your family:

Breakfast:  There are many places serving up bacon and eggs in the morning hours.  Two of the most popular places are:

  • Hazel's Family Restaurant, located in Orange Beach and Gulf  Shores, features an all you can eat breakfast buffet.  Whatever you want for breakfast, Hazel's is sure to have it!  Call Hazel's Orange Beach at 981-4628 and Hazel's Gulf Shores at 968-7065.
  • Tacky Jack's off Marina Road in Orange Beach.  Many think there is no better feeling than sipping a cup of coffee while standing on a dock looking at the waters of the bay.  Known for it's unique omelets and dockside ambiance, Tacky Jack's is a place you will remember.  Call them at 981-4144.

Alabama's Gulf Coast Zoo: The Zoo has entertained children of all ages for many years.  Everyone's favorite section is the petting zoo.  Get up close with the animals and have some fun!  For information please call 968-5731.

Kid's Park: A great spot for parents to enjoy with their children.  Let your child's imagination take over at this charming play land.  Picnic facilities are on site for your convenience.  If a picnic is what you have in mind, stop at the Gulf Shores Baking Company for a to-go box.  it's just a few blocks away from the park.  The Baking Company is located at 200 Clubhouse Dr. in Gulf Shores.  You can call them at 967-4646.

Mini-Golf: A round of mini-golf is a great family game.  Many of the local courses offer special rates if you play in the afternoon.  Pirate's Island, just north of the Intercoastal Bridge, has two courses designed to accommodate various skill levels.  Call 987-1224 for details.

Sea the Birds: Herons that is!  For a close look at these fascinating birds, drive to the Alabama Point Bridge .  The great herons gather at this location 24-hours a day to feed on the fish.  The local fishermen come here to fish as well.  You might want to stop at the Top Gun Bait Store in the Winn-Dixie Shopping Center and pick up some bait to feed the birds.

Catch of the Day: Zeke's Landing is at the Alabama Point.  Towards the end of the day you can watch the fishing boats come back to the docks with their catch.  Take this opportunity to take a look at some really fresh fish!  For additional information call 981-4007.
